One of the weirder systems that Nintendo made. Released in 1995 it was Nintendo's attempt at virtual reality. It is a headset resembling a View-Master on a stand and all of the graphics consist of red and black, which was to cut costs as full-color would have made it too expensive. It was Nintendo's first 32-bit system and was capable of 3D graphics. The graphics are known to cause eye strain if the system was played with for too long. It has a controller with two directional pads for the 3D graphics. It uses 6 AA batteries but there was also an AC-adapter released for it. Critics did not like it and it ended up being a commercial failure. It was discontinued after only a few months. Only 22 games were released for the Virtual Boy, 14 of which were released in North America. While there are only a few games for it, some of the ones that were released are fun. It is a neat system and it is nice to play for the novelty of it but it is not the kind of system you would want to play regularly.
